WELCOME: To the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Africa who will offer the annual Missionary Appeal

 

GRACIAS, MUCHAS GRACIAS: To all from St. Matthew’s, Mount Carmel and St. Sophia’s who supported Colin Mulhern and Fr. Martin in their recent cycles for the Ecuador Trust.  Colin raised £627 and Fr. Martin brought in £1,389.  This money will help run the Soup Kitchen which operates every day in the shanty town and feeds the poorest children who would otherwise go hungry.

 

VIDES UK: NEW MESSAGE FOR THIS WEEK … This Youth Activity week was a great success – the young people enjoyed and the Volunteers seemed to love their Scottish experience!  Hopefully they’ll be back.  Thanks also to all who donated money for the volunteers food and to those who made dinners and puddings.  It was all “mmmmm-licious!”

 

SOLEMNITY OF THE ASSUMPTION: this will be on 15th August and is a Holyday of Obligation.  Fr. Martin will celebrate the following Masses: Vigil Mass on Monday 14th at 7pm in St. Sophia’s; Tuesday 15th at 9.30am in St. Matthew’s and 11am in Mount Carmel. 

 

Fr. Stephen will celebrate the following Masses on the 15th Aug: 10 am in St Paul’s; 12.30pm in St Joseph’s; and 7pm in St Joseph’s.

 

Our Lady and St. Patrick's Church, Birniknowe, (Auchinleck)

 

It is 150 years since Mass was first celebrated at this site.  Bishop Nolan will celebrate Mass at the original church site on Sunday, 20th August at 2:30pm. All people are welcome.

 

ST. MATTHEW’S FINANCE GROUP: This will take place in St. Matthew’s House on Tuesday, 22nd August at 7pm.  All welcome.

 

JOINT PASTORAL COUNCIL: This will take place at St. Matthew’s on Thursday, 24th August at 7pm.  It is open to parishioners of all our Churches, welcoming for the first time parishioners of St. Sophia’s.  If you have any item you wish discussed, please mention it to Fr. Martin

 

SATURDAY MORNING MASS:  The Monthly Mass will now be celebrated at Our Lady & St John’s, Stewarton.  It will take place on the last Saturday of the month and will begin at 11am.  The first date will therefore be Saturday, 26th August at 11am.

 

ANNUAL DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE TO WHITHORN: Will take place on Sunday, 27th August with 4pm Mass at the Cave and Mass in Whithorn Church for those unable to walk to the cave.  A coach will travel for all Kilmarnock, and Hurlford and Galston parishes.  It will leave Galston (probably from Tesco) at 10.45 am, pick up at St Paul’s Church, Hurlford at 10.50 am and then pick up at St Joseph’s Church, Kilmarnock at 11.00 am.  Please bring a packed lunch.  The coach will stop in Girvan for toilets and to eat lunch.   After Mass the coach will leave Whithorn, stopping at Girvan at the Harbour Café for a sit-in fish tea.  Cost for the bus £5, children/young people under 16 free.  Fish and chips or alternative to be paid at the café.  A great day out for individuals and families.  Please add your name to the list in the porch before Sunday 20th August to book a place on the coach.

 

BAPTISM TALK: For those who whish to have their children baptised, please attend the short talk by the Sisters at Mount Carmel Church on Tuesday, 29th August at 7pm.

 

MOUNT CARMEL FINANCE GROUP: This will take place in the Church on Thursday, 31st August at 7pm.  All welcome.

 

CELEBRATE SCOTLAND:Is a weekend of faith sharing and celebration designed to appeal to families of all sizes – old and young. It is a Catholic event which is welcoming to our brothers and sisters from all parts of the Christian family.  This year’s theme is “Seek first his Kingdom”, running in St Ninian’s High School, Giffnock, East Renfrewshire from Saturday 2nd till Sunday 3rd September.  For more details and to book see website www.celebrateconference.org 

 

JOINT PARISH SOCIAL DAY: Parishioners of Mount Carmel, St. Matthew’s and St. Sophia’s are invited to this Joint Social Day on Sunday 3rd September beginning at 2pm.  There will be games at St. Matthew’s, a Treasure Hunt around Kay Park and eats back at the Church.  Originally it was intended to have the event at the Dean park but it is out of commission during their renovations.  Please come along and join in the fun!

 

NATIONAL PILGRIMAGE: To Carfin Grotto on Sunday, 3rd September with Mass at 3pm …. to consecrate Scotland to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

POPE’S PRAYER INTENTION FOR AUGUST: For Artists – That artists of our time, through their ingenuity, may help discover the beauty of Creation.

 

FR. MARTIN: Will be visiting Canon Donald MacKay in Uist in the latter part of this week.  Please pray for Canon Donald.

 

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS: Would all Eucharistic Ministers who are willing and able to help take Communion to the Sick and Housebound make themselves known to Fr. Martin.  Suitable training will be put in place.

 

LAY-LED FUNERAL LITURGIES:  The Church has made provision in its Funeral Liturgies for Lay-led Services to be conducted.  With a view to preparing for the day when this will happen in our area, Fr. Willie McFadden will lead a training course for those who are thinking of joining this ministry.  If you are also interested, please speak to Fr. Martin

 

 

WEDDINGS: Any couple wishing to be married in Mount Carmel or St. Matthew’s in the coming years should speak to Fr. Martin as soon as possible.
