ADVENT RECONCILIATION SERVICE:  In an effort to unite in “Embracing Change”, there will be ONE Advent Reconciliation Service for Kilmarnock and Loudoun.  It will take place at St. Joseph’s Church THIS Monday, 11th Dec at 7pm

 

ECUMENICAL CAROL SERVICE – KILMAURS: This year it will be held on Sunday 10th December at 6-30pm in St Maurs Glencairn (the church on the left on entering the village)

 

CAROLS AT THE CROSS: This ecumenical event will take place at Kilmarnock Cross on Saturday, 16th December from 11am-12 Noon.  Carols outside then mice pies inside.  All welcome.

 

ST. SOPHIA’S QUIET DAY: This will take place at St. Sophia’s on Saturday, 16th December from 3.30-5.30pm. “A chance for a breather from the mad Christmas rush!  To make sure there is someone in the Church at all times, please mark your name on the sheet in the porch – half hour slots are available.

 

CHILDREN’S INITIATION:  The Children preparing for the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist are invited to bring along to Mass next weekend the CHIRST FIGURE from the home crib scene to be blessed.

 

ST. MATTHEW’S QUIET DAY: Will take place in St. Matthew’s on Sunday 17th December from 4.00pm-7.00pm. To make sure there is someone in the Church at all times, please mark your name on the sheet in the porch – half hour slots are available

 

MOUNT CARMEL QUIET DAY: This will take place at Mount Carmel on Sunday, 17th December from 4-6pm. All parishioners from St. Matthew’s and Mount Carmel are welcome.  A chance for a breather from the mad Christmas rush!  To make sure there is someone in the Church at all times, please mark your name on the sheet in the porch – half hour slots are available.  This will be followed by CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT from 6.30-7.30pm. 

 

DIOCESAN CAROL SERVICE:  The annual service of readings and carols will take place on Wednesday 20th December at 7.30 p.m. in St Margaret’s Cathedral, Ayr.  Mince pies served in the hall afterwards.  All welcome.

 

CHRISTMAS CARD DELIVERY: The 91st Ayrshire (St Joseph’s) Scout Group will be delivering Christmas Cards within the Kilmarnock town area, in Hurlford and in Crookedholm. Cost 25 pence per card.  Collection points: At all Masses on 9th/10th December. All cards must be properly addressed to ensure delivery.  Order slips will be distributed this weekend at Mass.  Thank you.

 

EACHa CHRISTMAS PRESENTS: East Ayrshire Churches Housing Action is once again receiving presents which can be handed to needy children at Christmas.  If you wish to help please wrap a present, marking it who it might be for (Girl aged 6yrs, Boy aged 3yrs) and hand it in to the Sacristy BEFORE SUNDAY 17TH DECEMBER.  Fr. Martin will make sure it gets to the New Laigh Kirk for distribution.

 

NEW ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: From December Fr. Martin will have the following arrangements for Baptism:

 

a)      You can choose to have your child baptised during ANY Saturday Vigil/Sunday Mass;

 

b)      If you wish to have your child baptised outside Mass, the following will be the arrangements:

 

-          2nd Sunday of the month at 1pm in St. Matthew’s;

 

-          3rd Sunday of the month at 1pm in Mount Carmel;

 

-          4th Sunday of the month at 1pm in St. Sophia’s.

 

You may wish therefore to choose a venue outwith your own Parish Church.  Should more than one family have chosen a particular date then the baptisms would be carried out together at the same ceremony.

 

c)       Sisters Imelda & Barbara will lead a monthly talk for anyone wishing to have their children baptised.

 

For a while Fr. Martin was running between multiple venues to conduct Baptisms – this will help ease a stretched workload.

 

CHRISTMAS FORWARD PLANNING: So that people can plan ahead ….For the Feast of Christmas Masses will be celebrated as follows:

 

Dec 24th: 6pm-Mount Carmel; 8pm-St. Sophia’s; 9pm-St. Joseph’s

 

Dec 25th: St. Paul’s-9am; 9.30am-St. Matthew’s; 11am-St. Joseph’s

 

ANNUAL CRIB APPEAL:  The money collected at the crib will be for the St. Margaret Children and Family Care Society. 

 

CHILDREN AT CHRISTMAS DAY MASS: Children are also invited to bring to Mass on Christmas morning, a small baby gift (socks, nappies, sponge….) which will be given to Hillhouse.

 

JOINT PARISHES CHRISTMAS PARTY:  Families and friends of Mount Carmel and St. Matthew’s are invited to come to St. Matthew’s Hall on Friday, 29th December from 3-6pm for a night of fun and friendship.  As in previous years there will be games for all ages.  You are invited to bring your own leftover eats and drinks.  A chance to relax and enjoy one another’s company.

 

HOGMANAY REFLECTION NIGHT:  St. Matthew’s will host this event on Sunday, 31st December.  Quiet prayer in the Church from 4pm finishing with a Hogmanay Prayer Service at 6pm.  There will be Carols playing in the background and soft candle light in the Church.  To make sure that the Church is attended at all times, please take a 30min slot on the sheet at the back of St. Matthew’s Church.

 

CONFORMATION 2018:  The date for the Sacrament of Confirmation for our Deanery has been set.  Bishop Nolan will administer the sacrament in Mount Carmel Church on Thursday, 8th February 2018 at 7pm.

 

WEDDINGS: Any couple wishing to be married in ST. SOPHIA’S, Mount Carmel or St. Matthew’s in the coming years should speak to Fr. Martin as soon as possible.
