GENERAL INTERCESSIONS

6TH SUNDAY OF YEAR A

21ST MAY 2017

PRIEST:  Our readings today remind us that the “Spirit of Truth” is coming to the world.  We pray that the heart of the world and our hearts will be open for the Spirit to come ….

READER:

We pray for the children who today are receiving and preparing to receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time: may it be for them and their families a time of grace and love.

LORD, HEAR US …

We hear in today’s reading from the Acts of the Apostles that the world was transformed by their Christian words and actions.  We pray for OUR world – that it may also be changed and renewed by Christian Gospel values.

LORD, HEAR US …

In today’s Gospel, Jesus invites us into his love.  We pray that we may understand more fully how much God loves us and that we may share his love freely in our family and community

LORD, HEAR US …

Today is the culmination of CHRISTIAN AID WEEK.  We pray that, as Christians, we will always work towards an end to the world’s poverty, hunger, war and violence.

LORD, HEAR US …

We pray for all pupils and students preparing for and sitting exams at this time.  May they work hard so that their dreams might become a reality.

LORD, HEAR US ….

We pray for all those who have died, especially MIRRAN CARSON and our own relatives and friends, that they may receive the rewards of their labours in Heaven … (Pause) … and we spend a moment praying for our own needs … (further Pause) …

LORD, HEAR US …

PRIEST:  God our Father, hear these prayers, grant what we need and show us the path to dignity and hope.  We ask this through Christ our Lord
