Priest:                   Today we come before God praying that we, our Church and our world community might be free from world attachments …

Reader:

1.       We pray for the Church throughout the world: as our world community continues to suffer because of terrorism, we pray that the Church might boldly proclaim the message of peace with justice.

          LORD, HEAR US …

2.       Our readings today speak of the call to generosity: we pray that our own local community might continue to be marked by its openness to others and by its’  willingness to help those in need.  We pray especially that God might bless our efforts in charity.

          LORD, HEAR US …

3.                 Through today’s Gospel, Jesus calls on his disciples to be free from all attachments.  As we throw off all aspects of our lives that draw us downwards, we pray that we might be free once again to love those around us and serve Jesus more fully.

          LORD, HEAR US …

4.                 This weekend our schools start their summer holidays.  We pray that all families might have time to rest and recuperate and recharge their lives with love and understanding.

          LORD, HEAR US …

5.                 Tomorrow the Diocese begins its pilgrimage to Lourdes.  As we see our friends and families leave for the Marian shrine, we pray that we might all be encouraged to be people of service, especially of those who are weakest within our communities.

          LORD, HEAR US …

6.                 We pray for the repose of the souls of SUZANNE MURPHY and MARGARET McQUADE who have died: that they might receive eternal joy in God’s Kingdom …. (Pause) …. And we spend a few moments with our private prayers before the healing presence of God … (Pause) …

          LORD, HEAR US …

Priest:         Father of love, you call us to be your disciples.  Hear these our prayers and inspire us to throw off all unnecessary attachments.  We ask this through Christ our Lord
