Priest:                   Today we come close to the God of compassion who desires to transform our

hearts.  We offer our prayers for ourselves and for others…

Reader:

1.       Jesus says in today’s Gospel “come to me all you who are heavy burdened.”  We pray for the Church throughout the world: may it proclaim the great compassion of Jesus Christ which He continues to bring into the world.

          LORD, HEAR US …

2.       Our readings today invite us to “rejoice and shout with gladness” at what God is doing in the world.  As we enter the holiday period, we pray that we might rejoice with our families and friends at the love all around us.

          LORD, HEAR US …

3.                 We pray for peace in our needy world especially in areas ravaged by war and violence: we pray that world leaders may seek for long-lasting peace with justice for all.

          LORD, HEAR US …

4.                 For each one of us: may we be inspired today to embrace the values of the Gospel and accept the challenge from Christ of turning our world upside down.

          LORD, HEAR US …

5.                 We pray for the repose of the souls of GEORGE KANE and CATHIE FLANAGAN who have died: may they rest eternally in the love of God in Heaven.

          LORD, HEAR US …

6.                 We pause to remember all who are ill at this time at home and in hospital … (Pause) … and we remember our private needs … (Pause) …

          LORD, HEAR US …

Priest:         Father of love, you promise to shoulder our burden and give us rest.  Hear these our prayers and remind us always that Gospel values are not a set of rules and commands but a way of life that leads to our true happiness.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
