GENERAL INTERCESSIONS

22nd Sunday of Year A

3rd September 2017

Priest:         We are reminded today through the Prophet Jeremiah that God has placed a ”fire burning within our heart.” We pray for the fire of God’s love and hope to take deeper root in our world and in our hearts …

Reader:

1.                 The prophet Jeremiah today speaks of “violence and ruin” all around him.  We pray for areas of our world where they are indeed surrounded by war and violence: may leaders work to bring hope to all peoples, especially the weakest and most needy.

LORD, HEAR US …

2.                 For a greater sense of SERVICE within our community: may each of us give our hearts in love and service to those around us so that we too can find true happiness and fulfilment.

LORD, HEAR US …

3.                 We pray also for those who have to carry the burden of suffering: we pray that, although at times life looks bleak, they may see Christ walking at their side and thereby find hope.

LORD, HEAR US …

4.                 We pray for all those in the caring professions: may God bless the work of love and service they do; and may they inspire others to give of themselves in service.

LORD, HEAR US …

5.                 We pray for all our relatives and friends who are ill – at home and in hospital – and for those who look after them: may they know the healing presence of Jesus Christ.

LORD, HEAR US …

6.                 We pray for the repose of the soul of JIM HEFRON (of Mount Carmel) and all our relatives and friends who have died: may they rest in peace … (Pause) ….  and we pray also for all our personal needs … Pause …

LORD, HEAR US …

Priest:         Father of love, hear the prayers that we make today and help us to be messengers of your hope to a needy world.  We ask this through Christ our Lord
