Priest:         As we stand at the beginning of Advent, let us ask God to make us a new people, ready to welcome Christ and His Love into our hearts ...

Reader:

1.       As we begin this season of Advent, we pray for the world community: may we realise that the world’s longings can only truly be fulfilled by lives filled with Gospel values.  May our leaders work for the dignity of all people.

          LORD, HEAR US …

2.     For each one of us gathered here in faith: as we hear the Gospel sayings ‘Stay awake’, may we use this season of Advent to see what are the TRUE Christian priorities needed for our lives.

          LORD, HEAR US …

3.       In this week in which Scotland celebrated its’ National Day with the Feast of St. Andrew, we pray that our country may continue to be built on love and service of one another.  May we put aside all bitterness and division to build God’s Kingdom here on earth.

          LORD, HEAR US …

4.     At this time of the year we pray for all our children and all young people.  May we support them always.  May they find inspiration through OUR love and hope.

LORD, HEAR US ..

5.     As we near the season of goodwill, we pray that our efforts in charity may bring much-needed help to those who are on the margins.  May it help each one of us to realise that we are fulfilled in life when we look outwards to the needs of others.

LORD, HEAR US …

6.     We pray for the repose of the soul of KATHLEEN KILPATRICK (St. Matthew’s) who has died and for all our departed sisters and brothers: may they enjoy the Light of Heaven ….. (Pause) And we spend a few moments with our private prayers before the mercy of God … (Pause) …

          LORD, HEAR US …

Priest:                   Father, you are our Redeemer; accept these petitions as we begin this season of              being alert to your presence all around us. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
