GENERAL INTERCESSIONS

3rd Sunday of Advent – Year B

17th December 2017

Priest:         Advent is a Season of waiting and hoping as we look to the Coming Christ.  With John the Baptist we look towards Christ who brings us hope ….

Reader:

A Voice cries in the Wilderness.  We pray for all those in our world who are living in the dark wilderness of war, bitterness and violence, loneliness and fear.  May the Coming Christ bring peace to their lives.

LORD, HEAR US …

The Isaiah reading today reminds us that God brings “Good News to the poor.”  Particularly at this time of year, we call to mind the plight of so many people in our world at home and abroad who live with poverty: may we do all we can IN CHARITY to help people in need.

LORD, HEAR US …

John the Baptist appears in today’s readings as a LIGHT in the darkness.  May Christ’s Light shine in family life and in society, leading people from division and fear to harmony and hope.

LORD, HEAR US …

In the Church, today is called “Gaudete Sunday” or “Rejoicing Sunday.”  We pray that we may take time out this week to recall how much God rejoices in the life of each one of us and how much God wishes to be born again in each one of us.

LORD, HEAR US …

We pray for Hannah Murphy (of Mount Carmel) and all we know who have died: may they receive the reward of their labours in the eternal joy of Heaven.

LORD, HEAR US …

We spend a few moments with our private prayers before the mercy of God … (Pause) …

LORD, HEAR US …

Priest:         Father of love, hear the prayers we make to you with confidence, as we prepare

with eager anticipation to celebrate the birth of your Son, Jesus Christ,

who lives for ever and ever.
