5th Sunday of Easter – Year B

28th/29th April 2018

PRIEST:  “I am the Vine, you are the Branches.”  Jesus reminds us today that God has a special plan of love for each of us.  Let us pray that all people will remain close to Him  ….

In the Gospel image today, Jesus reminds us that God has a Plan of Fruitfulness for the entire world.  We pray that the encouraging signs of Peace this week on the Korean Peninsula will encourage the entire world community to work for peace and unity throughout the world.

In the First Reading from the Acts of the Apostles, we read that the early Christian Community spent much time in prayer living in harmony with each other.  We pray that our own Parish Community – and the Church throughout the world – will be a sign of God’s harmony for a needy world.

The presence of Peter and Judas around the table of the Last Supper reminds all disciples that they continually need to be “pruned by God’s Word.”  We pray for each one of us in our own prayers life with God: may we take time to reflect in God’s presence in our lives and where we need to change for better.

We pray for all pupils and students preparing for and sitting exams at this time.  May they work hard so that their dreams might become a reality.

We pray for all those who have died, especially our own relatives and friends, that they may receive the rewards of their labours in Heaven … (Pause) … and we spend a moment praying for our own needs … (further Pause) …

PRIEST:  God our Father, hear these prayers, grant what we need and show us the path to dignity and hope.  We ask this through Christ our Lord
